You'd better have a good four days to spare you're going to the whole hog with Himsagar Express. This is the single longest train ride in India, both in terms of distance and time. Hop on at Jammu Tawi on Monday at 11.15pm. and get off at Kanyakumari on Friday at 1am. That's 3,751 km over 74 hour and 55 minutes, folks. The Himsagar Express also - unsurprisingly - covers the largest number of states (11) along with the Navyug Express which plies between Jammu Tawi and Mangalore.
The train passes more than 70 stations, including Pathankot, Ludhiana, Delhi Bhopal, Vijayawada, Kodaikanal and Thiruvananthapuram. It'll take three days off your life on sleeper class - which must be the cheapest way of crossing the length of the subcontinent.
