Tiger Pench National ParkThink Tiger.Think Madhya Pradesh. And if its Madhya Pradesh, then the top names that spring to mind are Kanha and Bandhavgarh, may be even Panna. But never Pench Tiger Reserve. And that is good, because the teeming crowds are missing from this little sanctuary in the southern part of Satpura Hills in the Seoni and Chindwara districts. The Jungels here are the Jungles of the Jungle Book.

There is something about Pench - and it s not just the incredibly healthy ungulate population or the resplendent Flora that hugs the undulating hills and grasslands. It is the size of the animals here - they seem huge compared to other regions of the country. We have seen the biggest tigers here, and this is probably the best place to see the mighty gaur or Indian bison and the Asiatic wild dog or dhole.

After a day in the Jungle, come back to a simple meal in a lovely high celinged forest rest house. Most of these rest houses are in the buffer, situated next to tribal villages. End the evening with a fire outside, sipping mahua and watching a big far yellow moon light up the Pench river.

Getting there :
